Don’t Let The Opinions Of Others Stop You – Be Unstoppable

The Opinion of Others

Steve Jobs

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking.

Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.

Don't Let Other People's Opinion Stop You - Be Unstoppable

Be Yourself

The "Seriously Unstoppable Person Earning Respect" never lets the opinions of others define them. Why?

The most important reason is that they don't care what other people think of them. If you know exactly who you are, what makes you happy, and what you're doing is correct, who cares what others think?

However, not caring what others think is difficult. The 10 tips in this article can give you some help. Practice these techniques so you can become truly "Unstoppable", not matter what others think.

Let's get started.

1

Work On Getting In Touch With Yourself

Get In Touch With Yourself

What makes you a unique individual? Spend some quiet time reflecting on your traits, talents, and values. What is it that really makes you who you are?

Write down a list of what really matters to you. This helps you develop a sense of what's important to you.

Are you the same in private as you are in public? Look at the differences in your behavior, and it will show you the effect that others have on you.

Getting in touch with who you really are will help keep you true to yourself.

2

Make Decisions Based On Your Own Values

Make decisions

Decisions are easy to make when you are clear about your values. Keep your choices consistent with your priorities no matter what other people think.

Those values can be tested when you take input from other people. Asking input from knowledgeable people can help collect good information.

When you get unsolicited negative feedback from others, you will want to hold firm on your own decision. You know what's best for you. So, make you own decisions based on your values.

3

Represent Yourself In Ways That Make You Happy

Happiness

Start incorporating your unique characteristics into everything you do. These are the things that really make you happy.

When you act on the things that are really important to you, not only will others appreciate you, but you will gain more confidence in your choices.

The more confident you are, you will not be influenced by the opinions of others.

4

Avoid Uninvited Judgments

Avoid Argument

Avoiding uninvited judgements can be a big undertaking. Social media makes it so easy to get positive and negative feedback on just about anything. Some is wanted and others can be unwanted.

When you get harsh criticism, it is easy to just unfriend that person. Never allow someone to be rude, judgmental,  or just make you feel bad.

Avoid them at all costs.

5

Don’t Let Someone’s Negative Judgment Define Who You Are

Be Yourself First

No matter how hard you try to avoid the negativity from others, people will still make negative comments about you.

Keep a balanced perspective by putting negative comments in their proper place. If they come from people who know you well and want you to succeed, you can consider it for personal improvement.

If the comments are meant to hurt you, disregard them immediately. If you are with someone you can't totally cut out of your life, limit the time you spend with them.

6

Consider If A Person Judging You Has Good Intentions

Justify

Opinions of others can be handled by asking a few quick questions.

1. Does this person have my best interest in mind?

2. Is this something I can work on to become a better person?

3. Is this a petty judgement that's meant to insult me?

Knowing someone's true intentions can help you decide whether to discard what they say, or to give it some consideration.

7

Get The Facts From Multiple Sources

Information

If you have a hard time determining how valid someone's opinion is, get some facts from multiple sources.

Consult experts on the subject, read articles from many sources, and get information from books. That's how you gather your own resources to base your judgements.

When you make a decision to act, it will be based on good concrete facts.

8

Decide If A Person Is Informed About A Topic

Knowledgeable

Before you get too concerned about something someone said, decide if that person is well informed on the topic. Are they qualified to make judgements one way or another.

It's good to probe into the background of anyone making opinions. Do they have the experience and education to make their opinions valid.

Even if they are qualified, it's still good to look at the motivation for their statements.

9

Avoid Faking Agreement Just To Please Others

Agreement

Some people have a problem with people-pleasing. They find it very difficult to say "No". So they agree with things they don't want to do in fear of disappointing others.

Don't be afraid to have opinions that go against the norm. Listen to your gut instincts instead of trying to conform. People-pleasing can sometimes feel worse than taking negative comments from others.

Respect what others think, but it's OK to accept that you don't have to think like others. Not everyone will think the same way, and it's Ok to go against the crowd.

10

Accept Yourself For Who You Are

Confident

The bottom line is to be your authentic self. Improve yourself when you can, and accept there are things you will not change.

There are things that you can always improve. Take the necessary steps to make those improvements. Not everything you do will be perfect. Credible constructive criticism is necessary for improvement.

Change what you can, and accept what you can't. Regardless, accept yourself for who you are.

Conclusion

Unstoppable

Don't let someone's opinion of you stop you. Being "Unstoppable" requires you to stop thinking what others think about you.

Not caring what others think can be difficult, but there are plenty of steps you can take to become more self-confident.

Get in touch with who you are and the values you cherish most. Make decisions that coincide with who you are and what you stand for.

Do your own research into the topic you are concerned about and make your own decisions. Be aware of the trap of people-pleasing and make sure you don't fall into it.

And most importantly, improve what you can, but accept yourself for who you are.

Be "Unstoppable". Don't ever let the negative opinions of others stop you.
