Your Follow Through Brings Home The Gold

Everyone has dreams and aspirations to become whatever it is they desire. No matter how big or small your dreams are, they have the potential to come true.

However, dreams don't become reality without follow through. Follow through is a series of continued actions to get you one step closer to the accomplishment of your goals.

The process of striving to achieve your goals helps you realize your greatest dream for happiness and well-being.

To accomplish everything you want starts when you become a master at follow through. This follow through will surely bring you everything that you desire.

Here's how you can build follow through that brings home the gold. Let's get start.

1

Get Specific About Your Goals

Super Achiever Thinking

By now, you have probably done some brainstorming about what you want, and may have even written down some thoughts.

Now it's time to get more specific. Write down some specific things you would like to achieve immediately.

Goals that can be quantified make a great start. When your goals are vague, it's hard to determine exactly when they are accomplished.

Vague goals like, "I just want to do my best", are hard to put a number to. Saying I want to practice five hours a day is easier to track.

Use clarity and details to get more specific when you define your goals.

2

Use The Smart Method

Opportunity to Invent

Most of us have probably already used the SMART method to define our goals. If not, consider using it to define achievable goals.

The SMART this criteria for goals definition:

Specific

Measurable

Achievable

Relevant

Time-Bound

Following this process will help you refine your goals to make them easier to accomplish.

3

Envision The Impacts And Rank Your Goals

High Goals

Spend some time envisioning the impacts of your goals and rank them accordingly. In other words, determine how achieving each goal will benefit you. How will it make your life even better?

Approaching it in these terms helps you visualize the impact it will have on your life. This can be very motivation as you strive to reach your goals. It helps you understand why you work so hard.

Next, rank your goals in terms of the most benefit they will bring. Most people have several goals they want to achieve. Choose the most important ones and put then at the top of your list.

4

Create Sub Goals

Facts

Take your first goal on the list and start breaking it down into sub goals. Breaking them into smaller tasks helps make the goal seem more achievable.

These smaller tasks are easier to accomplish, and completing little goals add up to major accomplishments.

Creating a schedule for these subtasks helps you stay focused and keeps you on track.

5

Identify Obstacles In Advance

critical thinking

Encountering obstacles along the way is a virtual certainty. So why not think early about what may happen, and put some plans in place in case it does.

Thinking about obstacles in advance gives you time to come up with some solid ideas on how to overcome them.

You don't know what the future will bring but the more prepared you are the better. It's good to have a plan in place just in case the unforeseen happens.

6

Devote Your Time

Set Deadlines

Now that we have the basics in place, it's time to talk about what it takes to get that goal accomplished.

The way to create follow through is to devote your time. It takes time to accomplish even the small tasks involved in goal accomplishment. So allocating time everyday to work on something is important.

Think about your deadline to achieve your goals and allocate time to ensure you meet that deadline.

There's no way to get around putting in the time. If you are truly committed to your goal, it is what you want to do.

7

Make It A Routine

Be Consistent

Once you get started working, stay committed to your efforts by creating work routines. Building routines into your day makes the work seem effortless.

After a while, starting your work seems like a natural part of your daily schedule. There is no great effort involved. It just becomes a routine.

It takes some effort getting a routine started.

Some say 21 days is the amount of time it takes to build a routine. Everyone is different but you can use that number as a guideline.

8

Track Your Progress

Track Progress

Some people don't take the time to document what they do because it seems like a waste of time. The truth of the matter is that tracking your time can be your biggest motivational tool.

Start tracking your progress and you will be surprised what you are capable of accomplishing.

You can start by keeping a journal where you highlight all your progress. Doing that alone helps you think through a lot of issues you may be dealing with.

You can also use an app or get a desk calendar and make notes on it. Be sure to note the accomplishments of all your sub goals you complete.

Occasionally read over everything you've done and pat yourself on the back.

9

Stay Motivated

Risk and Reward

One of the hardest parts of following through on a goal, especially in the long term, is staying motivated.

It's not easy sticking to your daily work consistently over a long period of time. There are so many distractions these days. So staying motivated is hard.

Motivate yourself my creating a reward system to accomplishing even your smaller tasks. This positive reinforcement definitely helps.

You can also use negative reinforcement, like instituting consequences for not competing some task.

One good way to stay motivated is to have a strong emotional reason why you want to achieve your goals. That strong "why" will keep you getting up every morning ready to win.

Conclusion

Then its time to do the work. To achieve your goals, devote time to it every day, and track your progress. Turn this work into a routine that automatically becomes a natural part of your day.

Motivate yourself with positive or negative reinforcement. The most effective way to stay motivated is to have a strong emotional "why" for wanting to achieve your goals.
